Volunteers required for Peace in the Park

As you may already know, Names not Numbers has been selected by Peace in the Park to be its international charity this year. We are very excited about this, as it not only means that we get half of the profits made on the day, we also have the opportunity to raise awareness of what we do.

However, in order to raise funds on the day we need to provide the event with at least 25 volunteers to hold buckets and collect money.

Details

Event: Peace in the Park

Date: 9th June 2012

Time: 12-8pm

Required: 25 volunteers to fundraise from 12-4pm or 4-8pm.

The idea is that the more people we have on the ground the more money we should make! At the least it will lighten the load of those already volunteering.

The local charity that is supported this year by Peace in the Park is CRESST, another very worthwhile charity.

So if you think that you or a friend could help us out then please let us know here!

Thanks for your continuing support. We are making a difference!

Peace in the Park

We are very excited to announce that we shall be the international charity supported at this year’s Peace in the Park.

Peace in the Park is an annual festival that promotes peace in a park! This year it is held at the Ponderosa in Sheffield on the 9th June. See more details here http://web.peaceinthepark.org.uk/

Last year Names not Numbers held a stall at the event to raise money and awareness through a tombola and sponge throwing. It was a great day, so we are looking forward to this year’s where we will have an even greater presence! We shall receive half of the donations that get collected on the day and last year that was £1250!

The local charity that they are also supporting is CRESST – check out their great cause here http://www.cresst.org.uk/

If you would like to help us on the day then that would be greatly appreciated – click here to get in contact.

Thank you for your continuing support and we hope that you can join us on the 9th June!

South Africa: Week one…

We arrived in Harrismith on Monday. It was extremely surreal being back here after two and a half years and I still have to pinch myself every so often!

It is the beginning of Summer here, but so far you wouldn’t think  so. It has been very wet and cold, which of course has been blamed on us for bringing it!

We are still very much  finding our feet and meeting up with people, but the few items of news we’ve heard, have mostly been really positive.

Tsa Lapeng, which is the arts and crafts project setup in Makgolokoeng, is going from strength to strength. Their range of products has more than quadrupled and they are now supplying to many businesses in the area. Rheola’s, where we are staying, is having an arts and crafts festival from tomorrow, where all of their items will be displayed. It’ll be very difficult not to buy lots of their pretty creations.

I think the most exciting thing that has occurred in Tshwaranang, as we mentioned a few months ago, is the newly employed social worker Vanessa. We discovered that it is through our  and a few other large donations that this has been possible – so our work really is making a difference!

We’ve yet to go into Hope House as one of the children has mumps, but we are very much looking forward to hanging out with them. 10 of the children do not have families to go to for Christmas, so I imagine that they’ll be coming round to ours for films, presents and pizza!
