Gift aid rebate!

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Great news- we have been sent a tax rebate of £3674.86 from our friends at HMRC, thanks to all our amazing supporters who have gift aided their donations to us over the last 3 years!

This money will be shared out between the two projects we support, the Raffa Home and Tshwaranang. Which means it will be able to make a real difference to the lives of over 40 children and young people in two continents across the world!

Would you like to become a regular donor? If so please follow this link. Thank you once again to all those who give and have helped us get this rebate!

Stories from Tshwaranang

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Hope House, the children’s home run by the team at Tshwaranang, has recently received a new house manager. He started in October, the same month their new social worker started. Thanks to all who donate to make these posts possible!

Jackie, who is the financial officer for the organisation, writes “The need out there is huge. Please pray that we are able to meet these needs. For us to do that we need far more funding.” There is also a need for more partnership working across the area, so that more can be done with the fewer resources available.

Please join us in praying for unity so that more can be accomplished, and ultimately, more lives made better! Please also consider making a donation to the work of Tshwaranang; just visit our donate page for details.

Huge thanks to all those who came to Peace in the Park!

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

We have had a few weeks off over the summer (while two of our trustees move house to Lincoln, and the other two prepare to have a baby!) but wanted to write a quick post to say a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone and anyone who donated to our charity at Peace in the Park. The festival which took place in Sheffield in June this year raised a whopping great £3000 for charity, which was split between Names Not Numbers and CRESST, a local charity doing amazing work in schools to prevent bullying.

This means each of our projects will be receiving (in addition to monthly donations as normal) £750- wow! We’ll keep you updated with how the money is spent and the difference it makes over the coming weeks. But thanks once again, and bye for now!

Tshwaranang Update

Friday, April 13th, 2012

One of the charities we support is Tshwaranang. They’re a community centre that run several projects in the area, including a children’s home called Hope house.

A few changes have occurred over the past few weeks. They are currently looking for a new social worker – please pray that they find the right person for the role and that funding increases.

In other news, the house mother, Kim who has been at the home for nearly a year now has recently been in a car accident. She has broken her back and  undergone surgery. We hope that she fully recovers and is back with the children soon! I am sure they are missing her!

If you could keep them in your prayers during this difficult time, i’m sure they’d appreciate it.

South Africa: Week one…

Friday, November 25th, 2011

We arrived in Harrismith on Monday. It was extremely surreal being back here after two and a half years and I still have to pinch myself every so often!

It is the beginning of Summer here, but so far you wouldn’t think  so. It has been very wet and cold, which of course has been blamed on us for bringing it!

We are still very much  finding our feet and meeting up with people, but the few items of news we’ve heard, have mostly been really positive.

Tsa Lapeng, which is the arts and crafts project setup in Makgolokoeng, is going from strength to strength. Their range of products has more than quadrupled and they are now supplying to many businesses in the area. Rheola’s, where we are staying, is having an arts and crafts festival from tomorrow, where all of their items will be displayed. It’ll be very difficult not to buy lots of their pretty creations.

I think the most exciting thing that has occurred in Tshwaranang, as we mentioned a few months ago, is the newly employed social worker Vanessa. We discovered that it is through our  and a few other large donations that this has been possible – so our work really is making a difference!

We’ve yet to go into Hope House as one of the children has mumps, but we are very much looking forward to hanging out with them. 10 of the children do not have families to go to for Christmas, so I imagine that they’ll be coming round to ours for films, presents and pizza!
